Surya Sivakumar is a renowned Multiple award winning Tamil actor known for its dynamic persona and impeccable acting skills. Surya has appeared in several blockbuster and acclaimed films. He has been honored with Tamil Nadu State film Award, Filmfare Award, Vijay Award and ITFA Best Actor Award.

Surya was born as Saravanan Sivakumar on July 23, 1975 in Chennai. Surya Sivakumar is the son of eminent actor Sivakumar and elder brother of superstar Karthik Sivakumar who has appeared in superhit films like ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ and ‘Paiyaa’. Surya Sivakumar is married to popular actress Jyothika and the couple is blessed with a daughter, Diya and recently gave birth to a baby boy. Jyothika and Surya have appeared in around six films together including the blockbusters ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ and ‘Perazhagan’.

Surya made his acting debut in the 1997 release Tamil film ‘Nerruku Ner’ also starring Vijay, Simran and Kausalya. Surya later appeared in successful films like ‘Poovellam Kettuppar’, ‘ Uyirile Kalanthathu’ and ‘Friends’. He won accolades for Bala’s ‘Nandha’; the film was a blockbuster hit and Surya received his first Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor. He was also nominated for the Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award.

He repeated the success with Gautham Menon’s ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ opposite his real life wife Jyothika. The film bagged several awards at the Filmfare while Surya won the coveted ITFA Best Actor Award and another Filmfare nomination. Surya Sivakumar appeared in a supporting role alongside Vikram, Sangeetha, Laila and Simran in Bala’s acclaimed film ‘Pithamagan’. The film won a National Award and six Filmfare Awards including the Best Supporting Actor Award for Surya.

Surya and Jyothika were again seen together in Sasi Shanker’ ‘Perazhagan’ and both of them won the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in lead roles. Surya played the male lead in ‘Ghajini’, one of the highest grossing Tamil films till date. Directed and produced by A. R. Murugadoss, ‘Ghajini’ also starred Asin Thottumkal, Nayantara and Pradeep Rawat. The film was remade in Hindi with the same title, starring Aamir Khan and Asin. The Hindi version was also a box office blockbuster just like the original Tamil film. Surya received another Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor and was also nominated for the Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award.

Surya Sivakumar’s ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’ directed by Gautham Menon won several laurels including the prestigious National Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil, Filmfare Award for the Best Film and Vijay Award for the Best Film. Surya played the dual role of father and son while Sameera Reddy, Simran Bagga and Divya Spandana played the female leads in ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’. Surya finally won the Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award along with Tamil Nadu State Film Special Award for Best Actor and Vijay Award for Best Actor.

Surya’s 2009 release thriller ‘Ayan’ alongside Tamannah, Prabhu, Akashdeep Saighal and Karunas earned him the Vijay Award for Entertainer of the Year. Directed by K V Anand, ‘Ayan’ was a huge success at the box office. Surya won another Vijay Award for Entertainer of the Year for K. S. Ravikumar’s ‘Aadhavan’ co-starring Nayantara and Vadivelu.

Surya Sivakumar was recently seen in Hari’s ‘Singam’ opposite Anushka Shetty; the film opened to positive reviews and is so far the highest earner of the year. Surya is making his bollywood debut in the forthcoming film ‘Rakta Charitra’. ‘Rakta Charitra’ directed and produced by Ram Gopal Varma is simultaneously being made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The film features an ensemble cast including Surya Sivakumar, Vivek Oberoi, Shatrughan Sinha, Raj Babbar, Paresh Rawal, Priyamani and Sudeep.
