Former Miss Universe and a Bollywood actress Sushmita Sen is known for her intelligence and charismatic persona. Susmita Sen was born on 19th November, 1975 in St.Theresa's hospital, Hyderabad. Sushmita’s father Shubeer Sen, was a former Indian Air Force Wing Commander while her mother, Subhra Sen, is a jewelry designer and owns a store in Dubai.

Sushmita Sen was raised in New Delhi where she attended the Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute and Air Force Silver School. An English Honors student, Sushmita obtained a degree in Journalism. Sushmita loves to write prose and poetry and is well versed at Urdu language.
Sushmita Sen’s first public appearance was at the age of 15 at the Air Force Club Contest. At the age of 17, she decided to contest the Miss India pageant knowing the fact that she was competing with the supermodel Aishwarya Rai. Surprisingly, she won the contest and made India proud after winning the 1994 Miss Universe pageant held in Manila, Philippines. Sushmita became the first Miss India to be crowned as Miss Universe.
Sushmita Sen adopted her first daughter in 2000 and named her Renee, however she had to fight a legal battle before she could adopt Renee. She adopted a second girl child, Alisah on November 19 2009. The strong headed diva has been into a few a relationships but never got married. She is a single parent to both her girls, Renee and Alisah.
Sushmita Sen made her acting debut in ‘Dastak’ that failed at the box office. She earned commercial success in David Dhawan’s ‘Biwi No. 1’ alongside Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Karishma Kapoor and Tabu. The film became a huge success and Sushmita won her first Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. Later that year, Sushmita appeared in reasonably successful movies like ‘Sirf Tum’ and ‘Aankhein’. Sushmita received positive reviews for her performance in both the movies.
Sushmita appeared in 2004 blockbuster hit ‘Main Hoon Na’ opposite superstar Shahrukh Khan. Directed by Farah Khan, the movie became the highest grossing film of the year and the biggest hit of Sushmita’s career. Sushmita’s performance in ‘Main Aisa Hi Hoon’ opposite Ajay Devgan, ‘Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya’ opposite Salman Khan and ‘Karma, Confessions and Holi’ alongside supermodel Naomi Campbell were well received by the audiences and critics. Her most recent movies like ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag’, ‘Do Knot Disturb’ opposite Govinda and ‘Dulha Mil Gaya’ opposite Shahrukh Khan failed at the box office.
Sushmita Sen is extremely enthusiastic about her new project ‘Benazir Bhutto: The Movie’. Produced by Vox Vision and Leicester-based Sum Films, the movie is based on the life of Benazir Bhutto, the leader of Pakistan People’s Party.
Sushmita Sen has won four best supporting actress awards for ‘Biwi No.1’ including the Fuilmfare, Star Screen Awards, IIFA Awards and Zee Cine Awards. She has also been nominated in the best supporting actress category for her incredible performances in ‘Sirf Tum’ and ‘Filhaal’. Sushmita was honored with the Rajiv Gandhi Award in 2006 for her achievement in Bollywood. Sushmita was ranked at the 10th place in the Rediff.com list of top bollywood actresses of 2006.
