Tanisha Mukherjee is a popular Indian actress who has appeared in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Bengali films. Born on 1st January, 1978in Mumbai, Tanisha is part of the prominent Mukherjee clan of bollywood. Tanisha belongs to an influential family of renowned personalities of Indian cinema including her mother Tanuja, a popular actress, her father late Shomu Mukherjee, a film producer.

Her paternal grandfather Sashadhar Mukherjee was a producer in Hindi films and was considered a stalwart. Her paternal grandmother Satirani Devi was the sister of eminent film personalities like Ashok Kumar, Anup Kumar and Kishore Kumar. Her uncles Joy Mukherjee and Deb Mukherjee are well known Indian actors. The distinguished actress Nutan was her aunt while her maternal grandmother Shobhna Samarth was a renowned figure in the Indian cinema.
Her elder sister Kajol and cousin Rani Mukherjee are iconic figures and bollywood actresses. Her sister Kajol is married to the notable actor and director Ajay Devgan for around 11 years and the coupe is blessed with a seven year lovely daughter Nyasa. Tanisha made her bollywood debut in Pawan Kaul’s ‘Sssshhh...’, supposedly a remake of Hollywood thriller ‘Scream’. The film starred Dino Morea, Tanisha, Karan Nath, Gaurav Kapoor and Kushal Punjabi in lead roles. The film bombed at the box office and was panned by the critics. Tanisha was next seen in Kabir Sadanand’s ‘Popcorn Khao! Mast Ho Jao’ alongside Akshay Kapoor, Rashmi Nigam, Yash Tonk and Deepak Tijori, Mani Shankar’s ‘Tango Charlie’ alongside Sanjay Dutt, Suneil Shetty, Ajay Devgan, Bobby Deol and Nandana Sen, Ashwani Dheer’s ‘One Two Three’ alongside Suneil Shetty, Tusshar Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Esha Deol and Sameera Reddy.
She appeared in a glam avatar opposite Uday Chopra in Yash Raj Films’ ‘Neal ‘n’ Nikki’ directed by Arjun Sablok. Tanisha was seen in skimpy attires in ‘Neal ‘n’ Nikki’ and she joined the league of bold bikini babes of bollywood. However the film became a commercial and critical failure. Tanisha was appreciated for her performance in Ram Gopal Varma’s dramatic thriller ‘Sarkar’, supposedly an Indian adaptation of Mario Puzo's novel The Godfather. The commercially and critically successful film starred Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Kay Kay Menon, Katrina Kaif, Anupam Kher, Supriya Pathak and Tanisha Mukherjee. Tanisha also appeared in its sequel ‘Sarkar Raj’ alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
Tanisha Mukherjee was seen in Jeeva’s romantic musical Tamil film ‘Unnale Unnale’ alongside Vinay Rai, Sadha, Lekha Washington and Raju Sundaram. The film became a success at the box office and received mixed reviews from critics. She featured in Meher Ramesh’s Telugu film ‘Kantri’ starring Jr. NTR, Hansika Motwani, Tanisha Mukherjee and Prakash Raj in lead roles. The film became a huge success and received Filmfare nominations in the Best Actor and Best Lyrics category. The film won two awards for its choreography including the coveted Nandi Award and South Scope Award. The male protagonist Jr. NTR won the South Scope best stylish actor award.
Tanisha is currently filming for Goutam Halder’s Bengali film ‘Mukti’ alongside mother Tanuja and actors like Soumitra Chatterjee and Vidya Balan.
