Tulip Joshi also known as ‘Sanjana’ is an Indian actress who made her debut in Yash Raj Films’ ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai’. She has appeared in a few Bollywood movies and a couple of other films in Punjabi, Malayalam and Telugu.

Tulip Joshi was born on 19th May, 1979 to a Guajarati father and an Armenian mother in Mumbai. Tulip was raised in Mumbai and attended the Jamnabai Narsee School, and later graduated in food science and chemistry from Mithibai College. She was a national level athlete representing her college in many sports. Tulip has two sisters, Selphi and Monalisa, who is married to well known Bollywood actor Rajat Bedi.
Tulip Joshi participated in the 2000 Miss India beauty pageant, but could not make it to the top ten. However this charismatic beauty was noticed by many eminent media personalities and was eventually seen in many TV commercials including Ponds, Pepsi, Siyaram, BPL, Smirnoff, among others. She also featured in many music videos, the most popular being the Tribute to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Tulip Joshi made her bollywood debut in ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai’ alongside Uday Chopra, Jimmy Shergill and Bipasha Basu. ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai’ was directed by ‘Dhoom’ fame Sanjay Gadhavi and produced by veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra. The film was a success and earned positive reviews, however Tulip was criticized for her acting skills and her diction.
Tulip Joshi decided to overcome the lack of her knowledge of Hindi language and thus joined Feroze Khan’s studio. Tulip Joshi also changed her name to Sanjana Sahni as she was advised by many filmmakers that her unconventional name may not be accepted by the Indian audiences. In a couple of her films, she is credited as Sanjana while as Tulip in others.
Tulip Joshi earned rave reviews for her performances in sensitive cinema films like Manish JHa’s ‘Matrubhoomi: a Nation without Women’ depicting the ill effects of female foeticide and Pooja Bhatt’s ‘Dhokha’ opposite Muzammil Ibrahim wherein she played a suicide bomber. She was also seen in romantic comedy ‘Dil Maange More’ alongside Shahid Kapoor, Ayesha Takia and Soha Ali Khan.
Her second film was in Telugu, titled ‘Villain’ alongside Raja Sekhar, Neha Dhupia, and Naresh. Directed by KS Ravi Kumar and produced by Singanamala Ramesh Babu, the 2003 release ‘Villain’ was an average success at the box office. Tulip Joshi appeared in the Malayalam film ‘Mission 90 Days’ in the year 2007. ‘Mission 90 Days’, directed by Major Ravi was based on the former Indian PM Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination and the following investigation. Mammootty, Tulip Joshi, Srijith and Kiran Raj played significant roles in the film.
Tulip Joshi recently plunged into Punjabi films with ‘Jag Jeondeyan De Mele’ opposite Harbhajan Mann. The film did pretty well at the box office and Tulip was appreciated for her portrayal of Mitro, a poor and low class girl and the love interest of male protagonist played by Harbhajan Mann.
Tulip Joshi was recently seen in K. Murli Mohan Rao’s multistarrer comedy film ‘Daddy Cool’. Produced by Indra Kumar and Ashok Thakeria, ‘Daddy Cool’ is the remake of Frank Oz’s black comedy film ‘Death at a Funeral’. ‘Daddy Cool’ starred actors like Sunil Shetty, Aashish Chaudhary, Rajpal Yadav, Aftab Shivdasani, Tulip Joshi, Aarti Chhabria, Kim Sharma, among others.
