Vikram
Vikram is a National Award winning Indian actor who appears in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi films. Moreover he is also a film producer, playback singer and voice actor. Vikram has recently appeared as the main lead in the critically acclaimed Tamil film ‘Raavanan’ directed by ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam. Vikram also played a significant role in its Hindi version titled ‘Raavan’ co-starring the real life super-couple Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Vikram was born as John Kennedy Vinod Raj on 17 April 1966 in Paramakudi in Tamil Nadu. He attended the Montfort School, Yercaud, graduated from Loyola College, Chennai and later obtained an MBA degree. Vikram always aspired to join films and had appeared in many plays during his school and college days. Vikram’s father Vinod Raj is also an actor known for films like ‘Kannadada Kanda ’, ‘Thiruttu Payale’, ‘Kanthaswamy’ alongside Vikramand the recent ‘Yaaradu’. Vikram is married to Shylaja, a psychology teacher from Kannur and the couple has a daughter named Akshita and son Dhruv.
Vikram made his acting debut in the low budgeted Tamil film ‘En Kadhal Kanmani’ followed by supporting roles in ‘Thanthu Vitten Ennai’, ‘Kaaval Geetham’, ‘Meera’ and Malayalam film ‘Dhruv’. After appearing in several Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films during the early and mid nineties, he finally tasted success ‘Ullasam’ produced by Amitabh Bachchan. The film ran successfully for over 200 days in many centres.
Vikram won huge critical acclaim for his performance in Bala’s blockbuster romantic drama ‘Sethu’ released in the year 1999. ‘Sethu’ starred Vikram, Abitha and Sivakumar in lead roles. The film was remade in Kannada as ‘Huchha’ and Telugu as ‘Seshu’. Its Hindi version titled ‘Tere Naam’ starring Salman Khan and Bhumika Chawla was the highest grossing Bollywood film of the year. Vikram received the Tamil Nadu State Film Special Jury Award for Best Actor for his mpeccable performance in ‘Sethu’. Vikram won the Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award for Vinayan’s Tamil drama film ‘Kasi’ opposite Kavya Madhavan and ITFA Best Actor Award for Saran’s ‘Gemini’ also starring Kiran Rathod, Kalabhavan Mani and Murali. Vikram’s breakthrough performance was seen in Bala’s ‘Pithamagan’, a commercial and critical success. The film won several awards including the Filmfare Best Film Award and Filmfare Best Director Award. Vikram was honoured with the prestigious the National Film Silver Lotus Award for Best Actor, Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award and Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor. Vikram was seen in a completely different avatar in ‘Anniyan’ wherein he played the character of a lawyer suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder. Directed by S. Shankar, the film also starred Sadha, Vivek and Prakash Raj while Yana Gupta appeared in a sensational item dance number. Vikram received the Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award for ‘Anniyan’ which was also won the National Film Silver Lotus Award for Best Special Effects. Vikram received the nominations for Vijay Award for Favourite Hero for N. Linguswamy’s ‘Bheema’ also starring Trisha Krishnan, Prakash Raj and Raghuvaran and Susi Ganesan’s ‘Kanthasamy’ alongside Shriya Saran, Prabhu Ganesan and Krishna. Vikram’s latest release ‘Raavanan’ that has simultaneously been made in Hindi as ‘Raavan’ has received rave reviews from the critics. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film has also been released in Telugu as ‘Villain’. Vikram has appeared in two different characters in ‘Raavanan’ and ‘Raavan’; while he plays the lead Beera in the Tamil version; he appears as the positive lead in the Hindi version. ‘Raavan’ was premiered in London before its release in India. Vikram will soon be seen in Selvaraghavan’s psychological thriller ‘Sindubad’, ‘Vedi’ and an Indo-Japanese film titles ‘The 19th Step’.
