Vinod Khanna is a renowned Indian actor turned producer and a politician who has seved as the Member of Parliament. Vinod Khanna is best remembered for his performances in box office hits like ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Parvarish’, ‘Achanak’‘Muqaddar ka Sikandar’and the recent ‘Wanted’.
Vinod Khanna was born on October 6, 1946 to Kamla and KC Khanna in Peshawar. His family was in the business of Textiles, dyes and chemicals. He attended Queen Mary’s School and St Xavier’s High School and later graduated from the Sydenham College. Vinod Khanna married Geetanjali in the year 1971 and had two sons Akshaye Khanna and Rahul Khanna who are both well known Bollywood actors. Vinod Khanna became hugely influenced by the teachings of Osho and moved to Osho’s commune Rajneeshpuram where he served as his cleaner and gardener for four years. It was during this time that his wife Geetanjali divorced him owing to his absence and non fulfilment of family responsibilities. Vinod Khanna later married Kavita and is blessed with a son and a daughter.

Vinod Khanna made his acting debut as an antagonist in Sunil Dutt's 1968 release ‘Man Ka Meet’, however the film that got him huge critical acclaim and success was Gulzar’s ‘Mere Apne’ and ‘Achnak’. Vinod Khanna starred in a number of blockbuster films like ‘Reshma aur Shera’alongside Sunil Dutt, Waheeda Rehman, Raakhee and Amitabh Bachchan, Prakash Mehra’s ‘Haath ki Saafai’ alongside Randhir Kapoor, Hema Malini and Simi Garewal, Ravi Chopra’s ‘Zameer’ also starring Amitabh Bachchan, Saira Banu and Shammi Kapoor, Manmohan Desai’s ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Parveen Babi and Shabana Azmi.
 He also appeared alongside Shammi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Neetu Singh and Shabana Azmi in Manmohan Desai’s mega hit film ‘Parvarish’. Vinod Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan again starred together in Prakash Mehra’s commercially and critically successful film ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’ also starring Rakhee Gulzar and Rekha. Vinod Khanna acted alongside Feroz Khan in ‘Qurbani’ and ‘Dayavan’; Zeenat Aman played the female lead in the former while Madhuri Dixit played Vinod Khanna’s love interest in the latter.
Vinod Khanna played supporting roles in Ravi Chopra’s ‘the Burning Train’ also starring Parveen Babi, Dharmendra, Simi Garewal, Jeetendra, Hema Malini, Vinod Mehra and Neetu Singh and Yash Chopa’s National award winning film ‘Chandni’ alongside Rishi Kapoor and Sridevi. During nineties, he was seen in character roles in a number of films including Yash Chopra’s ‘Parampara’ starring Sunil Dutt, Aamir Khan, Ramya Krishnan, Saif Ali Khan, Raveena Tandon and Neelam Kothari, ‘Himalaya Putra’ alongside Hema Malini, Akshaye Khanna & Anjala Zaveri and the 2002 release ‘Deewanapan’ starring Arjun Rampal and Dia Mirza.
Vinod Khanna was seen in the negative lead in critically acclaimed film ‘Risk’ released in 2007. He played Salman Khan’s father in Prabhu Deva’s 2009 blockbuster ‘Wanted’ also starring Ayesha Takia, Prakash Raj, Inder Kumar and Mahesh Manjrekar.
Vinod Khanna has received several Filmfare nominations including Best Actor nomination for 'Shaque, Qurbani and Best Supporting actor Nominations for Haath Ki Safai, Muqaddar Ka Sikander and Hera Pheri. He was honored with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999, Stardust Role Model of the Year Award in 2006 and Zee Cine Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2007.
Vinod Khanna joined politics in the year 1997 and became a member of the BJP political party. Vinod Khanna has served as a Member of Parliament for three times from the constituency of Gurdaspur, Punjab. He also became the Union Minister for culture and tourism and later minister of external affairs.
