National award winner actor Ajay Devgan is a coveted Indian actor and a director. Originally named “Vishal Veeru Devgan”, Ajay Devgan’s family is a native of Punjab. Ajay Devgan was born on 2nd April 1969 in New Delhi to the famous stunt director Veeru Devgan and film producer Veena Devgan.
Ajay Devgan attended the Bappu School in Juhu and then Mithibai College, Mumbai. Ajay’s brother Anil Devgan is a hindi film director and has worked on a few projects for him. After a few years of courtship, Ajay got married to the renowned Indian actress Kajol on 24th Febrauary, 1999. The couple is blessed with a daughter named Nyasa Devgan.
Ajay Devgan started his acting career as an action hero with his debut in 1991 release ‘Phool Aur Kaante’. Ajay Devgan earned the prestigious Filmfare Best Debut Award for ‘Phool Aur Kaante’. During 90s, he worked in a few films of the action genre including’Jigar’, ‘Sangram’, ‘Ek Hi Raasta’, ‘Vijaypath’, ‘Gundaraj’, ‘Diljale’ and’Jung’ etc. His 1994 release ‘Dilwale’ opposite Raveena Tandon became a blockbuster for its melodious music and action sequences.

Ajay worked in his first romantic comedy ‘Ishq’ in 1997 also starring Aamir Khan, Kajol and Juhi Chawla. In 1998, Ajay Devgan appeared in’ Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha ‘which was a re-make of Hollywood film French Kiss. ‘Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha’ also starred Kajol and it became the biggest hit of that year.
Later he starred in Tinu Anand’s ‘Major Saab’ and Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Zakhm’, both opposite Sonali Bendre. Both the movies did pretty well at the box office. For his outstanding performance in ‘Zakhm’, he won several awards for the best actor in a leading role including the National Film Award.
Ajay Devgan cemented his status in Bollywood with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s romantic drama ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’. The movie also feature Salman Khan and Aiahwarya Rai, however according to the critics, Ajay stole the show with his effortless acting and crisp expressions. Ajay Devgan associated with Ram Gopal Varma and the two worked on a few projects together including ‘Company’, ‘Bhoot’ and ‘Ram Gopal Varma ki Aag’. While he won Star Screen Best Actor Award for ‘Company’, in the same year he also earned his second National Film Award for best actor for Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’.
Ajay Devgan’s few films did not fare very well at the box office; however he was acclaimed for his performances in Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Khakee’, Maniratnam’s ‘Yuva’, Prakash Jha’s ‘Gaangajal’ and ‘Apaharan’ and Rituparno Ghosh’s ‘Raincoat’.
In the year 2006, Ajay Devgan played the protagonist in Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Omkara’ which was adapted from Shakespeare’s ‘Othello’. The movie became a huge commercial as well as critical success. Ajay Devgan made his directorial debut with ‘U Me Aur Hum’ opposite his wife Kajol, the movie did reasonably well at the box office.
Ajay’s recent releases include ‘Golmaal Returs’, ‘All The Best’ and ‘London Dreams’. Prakash Jha’s political drama ‘Rajneeti’ is scheduled to release this year. Ajay Devgan is working on a few Bollywood projects including ‘Naam’, ‘Once Upon A Time in Mumbai’, ‘Golmaal 3’ and ‘Aakrosh’.
