Born on September 17, 1980 in India, Akshay Kapoor and his family moved to United States while he was very young. Akshay Kapoor was raised in Pittsgrove, New Jersey where he received training in theatre. Akshay Kapoor appeared in several Broadway plays and later moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in Bollywood.
Akshay Kapoor made his Bollywood debut in the year 2004 in a romantic- comedy film ‘Popcorn Khao! Mast Ho Jao’ directed by Kabir Sadanand. Akshay Kapoor played the male lead alongside Tanisha, famed Bollywood actress Kajol’s sister and model turned actress Rashmi nigam. The film also starred Yash Tonk, Deepak Tijori and Kabir Sadanand. The film did not fare well at the box office but Akshay was considered as one of the most promising new comers.
Akshay Kapoor gave a riveting performance in ‘Alag’, a remake of Victor Salva’s 1995 release ‘Powder’ starring Sean Patrick, Jeff Goldblum, Mary Steenburgen, Bradford Tatum, Lance Henriksen, and Brandon Smith. ‘Alag’ was the directorial debut of ace fashion photographer Subi Samuel and also starred Dia Mirza, Jayant Kriplani, Mukesh Tiwari, Sharat Saxena and Yatin Karyekar in significant roles. A number of bollywood celebrities including Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Sushmita Sen, Abhishek Bachchan, Karan Johar, Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal, Bobby Deol and Lara Dutta made special appearance in the title track of ‘alag’
Akshay Kapoor was next seen in a small yet pivotal role in ‘A Beautiful Mind.... of a Gladiator ‘, a spoof on Russel Crowe starrer Award Winning films ‘A Beautiful Mind’ and ‘Gladiator’. Akshay played a supporting role alongside Bobby Deol and Shriya Saran in Sangeeth Sivan’s action film ‘Ek – The Power of One’. Remake of the Telugu superhit ‘Athadu’, ‘Ek – The Power of One’ also starred Nana Patekar, Chunkey Pandey, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Jackie Shroff.
Akshay Kapoor played the male lead opposite Nausheen Ali Sardar in Vishal Pandya’s ‘Three – Love, Lies and Betrayal’. It was the debut film of Nausheen Ali Sardar who is a popular TV actress known for lead role in Ekta Kapoor’s ‘Kkusum’ aired on Sony Entertainment Television. The film also starred Aashish Chaudhary who has earlier appeared in films like ‘Fight Club’ and ‘Dhamaal’. Simultaneously Akshay Kapoor has also starred in a couple of unsuccessful projects like ‘Spring Broke’ and ‘Mujhe Rang De’.
Akshay Kapoor played the protagonist in India’s first ever hardcore dance film ‘Fast Forward’. Produced by ‘A Wednesday’ fame Anjum Rizvi and directed by Zaigham Ali Sayed, ‘Fast Forward’ featured veteran actors Vinod Khanna and Mahesh Manjrekar alongside young actors like Akshay Kapoor , Bhavna Pani, Rehan Khan, Sabina Sheema and Siddhanth Karnick.
‘Fast Forward’ was a complete Bollywood package with emotions, romance, conflict and thrills all set against the backdrop of dance. Choreographed by Sonia Jaffer Fraser, winner of Sony Entertainment Television’s ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’ along with Seema Desai and Vishnu Deva, ‘Fast Forward’ features different dance forms like Hip Hop, B Boying, Salsa, Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba and even House.
