Ayesha Jhulka is a famed Indian actress remembered for her charismatic performances in bollywood blockbusters like ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander’ and ‘Khiladi’. Ayesha was born on 28th July, 1975 in the serene valley of Srinagar in Kashmir. Her father served the Indian Air Force as a Wing Commander so they had to relocate frequently. Ayesha and her sister Aparna spent their early teen years in Srinagar and then moved to Delhi where they attended Loreto Conent School.

Ayesha Jhulka later came to the city of dreams, Mumbai to pursue a career in modeling and acting. After successfully modeling for a while, Ayesha made her debut in D.S. Azad’s ‘Kaise Kaise Log’ and later in Mehul Kumar’s ‘Meet Mere Man Ke’. However both these films as well as Ayesha Jhulka went noticed.
Ayesha was first seen in a lead role opposite Salman Khan in Deepak Bahry’s ‘Kurbaan’ also starring veteran actors like Sunil Dutt and Kabir Bedi in pivotal roles. The film was a box office hit and Ayesha was supposed to be one of the most promising actors of the coming years. Ayesha Jhulka was paired opposite the chocolate hero Aamir Khan in the blockbuster ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander’. The film was a sports drama combining the interesting elements of teen romance and revenge. ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander’ starred Pooja Bedi, Asrani, Aditya Lakhia, Mamik, Deepak Tijori, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Kiran Zaveri and Anjan Srivastav in significant roles. Directed by Aamir’s cousin Mansoor Khan, ‘Jo Jeeta wohi Sikander’ was appreciated for its melodious music and was honored with the Filmfare Best film Award in 1992.
Ayesha Jhulka continued her stride of success with Abbas Mustan’s suspense thriller ‘Khiladi’ starring Akshay Kumar in the lead role. ‘Khiladi’ was the first film in Akshay’s Khiladi series later followed by ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’, ‘Sabse Bada Khiladi’, ‘Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi’, ‘Mr. and Mrs. Khiladi’, ‘International Khiladi’ and ‘Khiladi 420’. Abbas Mustan’s ‘Khiladi’ featured Deepika Tijori, Sabeeha and Prem Chopra in pivotal roles besides the lead pair Akshay – Ayesha. The film became a smash hit and the lead pair was again seen in ‘Waqt Hamara Hai’ that failed to do well at the box office.
Ayesha Jhulka next appeared in two subsequent blockbusters in the year 1993- Partho Ghosh’s ‘Dalaal’ and Talat Jani’s ‘Rang’. While ‘Rang’ was a family drama, ‘Dalaal’ was a power packed action film. ‘Rang’ starred Jeetendra, Amrita Singh, Kamal Sadanah, Ayesha Jhulka and Divya Bharti in lead roles. In fact it was one of the last films that featured Divya Bharti, she died in April, 1993.
Ayesha Jhulka played the female lead opposite disco king Mithun Chakraborty in ‘Dalaal’. The film won rave reviews particularly for its upbeat music by Bappi Lahiri. However Ayesha accused the director for using her body double for certain scenes that clashed with her conservative and girl next door image. Jhulka brought the grievance to the notice of Cine Artistes Association and the Film Producers Association and eventually two out of three controversial scenes were deleted from the film.
After appearing in several successful films, Ayesha has also featured in supporting roles in films like ‘Hote Hote Pyar Ho Gaya’, ‘Chachi 420’, ‘Run’, ‘Umrao Jaan’, ‘Socha Na Tha’, ‘Janani’, among others.
Ayesha Jhulka was rumored to be romantically involved with co-actors Akshay Kumar, Nana Patekar and Armaan Kohli. However she tied the wedlock to Sameer Vashi an entrepreneur in the construction industry. Ayesha runs a play production company and has produced plays like ‘Purush’ and ‘Prakriti’.
