Ramya is a young Indian actress who made her cinematic debut in Kannada films and later ventured into Tamil and Telugu films. Ramya was born as Divya Spandana on 29th November, 1982 in Bangalore. Her family is a native of Mandya, however she was born in Bangalore and attended the St. Hilda's school in Ooty and Sacred Heart School (Church Park), Chennai. Ramya graduated from the St. Joseph's College of Commerce, Bangalore. Ramya always had keen interest in dance and theatre.

Ramya was first seen in the Kannada film ‘Abhi’ opposite Puneet Rajkumar and tthen subsequently appeared in many Kannada films like ‘Excuse Me’, ‘Ranga’, ‘Kanti’, ‘Aadi’, ‘Aakash’, ‘Gowramma’, ‘Julie’, ‘Datta’, ‘Sevanthi Sevanthi’, ‘Meera Madhava Raghava’ etc. her successful Kannada films include the blockbuster ‘Arasu’ alongside Puneet Rajkumar and Meera Jasmine, ‘Amrithadhare’ alongside Dhyan and Amitabh Bachchan, ‘Jothe Jotheyali’ opposite Prem, ‘Mussanjemaatu’ and ‘Just Math Mathalli’ opposite Sudeep, ‘Bombaat’ opposite Golden Star Ganesh and ‘Anthu Inthu Preethi Banthu’ opposite Aditya Babu. Ramya plunged into Tamil film industry with her actual name Divya Spandana in A. Venkatesh’s ‘Kuththu’ opposite Silambarasan. The film was the remake of Nehaa-Nitin starrer Telugu film ‘Dil’. She was eventually seen in a few Tamil films like Sundar C’s ‘Giri’ alongside Arjun and Reema Sen, Vetrimaran’s ‘Polladhavan’ opposite Dhanush, Adhiyaman’s Tamil love drama ‘Thoondil’opposite Shaam and the recent ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’ alongside Surya Sivakumar, Sameera Reddy and Simran Bagga.
Ramya won rave reviews for her performance in Vetrimaran’s ‘Polladhavan’, the film received four Vijay Awards including best Director. She was also appreciated for the blockbuster and award winning film ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’. In fact the film received the National Film Award in the Best Feature Film in Tamil category. Directed by Gautham Nenon, the film also bagged eight Filmfare Awards South including best Film, Best Director and Best Actor. ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’ also won twenty Vijay Awards, one International Tamil Film Award and three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.
Ramya has worked in two Telugu films ‘Abhimanyu’ and ‘Amurutha Varsham’ alongside Samir Dattani and Amitabh Bachchan. Two of her forthcoming Kannada films -‘Bhimoos Bang Bang Kids’ and ‘Jothegaara’ have been delayed. She is currently working on five Kannada films including ‘Ullasa’, ‘Kichha Huchha’, ‘Siddalingu’, ‘Dhandam Dhashagunam’ and ‘Sanju Weds Geetha’. She will be seen opposite Sudeep in ‘Kichha Huchha’ and Srinagar Kitty in ‘Sanju Weds Geetha’.
Ramya is also starring in the Tamil film ‘Kadhal 2 Kalyanam’ and ‘Singam Puli’. The forthcoming Tamil film ‘Singam Puli’ is an action drama directed by Sai Ramani. The film features superstar Jeeva in dual roles while Ramya plays the female lead. Other significant roles are played by Santhanam and Livingston.
