Vishal Krishna, popularly known as Vishal is an Indian actor known for starring in blockbuster films like ‘Sandakozhi’, ‘Thimiru’, ‘Thaamirabharani’, ‘Malaikottai’, ‘Thoranai’ and ‘Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai’. Vishal was born on 29 August 1977 to Tamil film producer G. K. Reddy in Andhra Pradesh. Vishal was raised in Chennai where he attended the reputed Don Bosco School. He later graduated in Visual Communication from Loyola College, Chennai. Vishal made his acting debut as a child artist in the 1988 release ‘Jadikketha Moodi ’.

Vishal aspired to work behind the camera and become a film director and eventually earned an apprenticeship with Ram Gopal Varma. Vishal had to move to Mumbai to assist Varma but his parents wanted him to stay closer to home. Thus he joined filmmaker Arjun as an assistant director for films like ‘Vedham’ & ‘Ezhumalai’.
Vishal was offered to play the lead in Gandhi Krishna’s ‘Chellamae’ alongside Reema Sen, Bharath, Bhanupriya and Vivek. Vishal left no stone unturned and joined a three-month acting course in a Koothupatrai troupe. ‘Chellamae’ became a superhit and Vishal became an overnight star. The success of ‘Chellamae’ was followed by blockbusters ‘Sandakozhi’ and ‘Thimiru’, both produced by Vishal’s brother Vikram Krishna.
‘Sandakozhi’ was a Tamil action film directed by N. Linguswamy and also starred Meera Jasmine, Rajkiran, Lal and Suman Setty. Tarun Gopi’s ‘Thimiru’ was also an action thriller and featured an ensemble cast including Vishal Krishna, Reema Sen, Sriya Reddy, former football player I. M. Vijayan, Manoj K. Jayan and Vadivelu. Kiran Rathod appeared in a sizzling dance number in ‘Thimiru’. The film was later dubbed into Kannada as ‘Minchu’.
Vishal played a cameo in Sasi’s multistarrer ‘Dishyum’ starring Jeeva, Sandhya, Nassar,
Undapakru and Venkat Prabhu. Vishal Krishna played the male lead opposite Mamta Mohandas in Karu Pazhaniappan’s ‘Sivappathigaram’ that fared reasonably well at the box office. Vishal appeared alongside debutant Bhanu, Prabhu, Nadhiya, Nassar and Vijayakumar in ‘Thaamirabharani’. Hari’s ‘Thaamirabharani’ was a huge commercial success and was later dubbed into Telugu as ‘Bharani’.
Vishal next starred opposite Priyamani in ‘Thiruvilayadal Arambam’ fame Boopathy Pandian’s ‘Malaikottai’. The film was a blockbuster and was dubbed into Telugu as ‘Bhayya’. Vishal appeared as a cop for the first time in A. Rajasekhar’s ‘Sathyam’ that was simultaneously made in Telugu. A. Rajasekhar was the associate of established director Suresh Krishna and ‘Sathyam’ was his directorial debut. Nayantara played Vishal’s love interest in the film while Upendra was seen in the negative lead.
Vishal won positive reviews for his performance in Sabha Ayyappan’s ‘Thoranai’ co-starring Shriya, Prakash Raj and Santhanam. Its Telugu version titled ‘Pistha’ was released simultaneously and both the films did pretty well at the box office. Vishal played a brat in Thiru’s ‘Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai’ alongside Neetu Chandra, former Miss India Universe Tanushree Dutta and former Miss India World Sarah-Jane Dias. The film was a financial gainer and was liked by the critics as well.
Vishal Krishna is presently shooting for Bala’s Tamil comedy film ‘Avan Ivan’ also starring Arya, Janani Iyer, Nivedhitha and Ambika. ‘Avan Ivan’ is currently in its production stage is slated to hit the screens in the last quarter of 2010 or maybe early next year.
